Politicians who have erred (foolishly led astray by the patently ridiculous idea that they are supposed to look for ways to improve schools) have rapidly been strong-armed back into the fold: witness the craven retractions by Joe Lieberman and Bill Bradley before the 2000 election.
When Clinton unveiled the idea, White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart denied it was a response to any of Bradley's proposals, saying the president has had a long-term commitment to the earned income tax credit program.
Bradley then set up Seamus Bradley's 53rd-minute goal and the Glenullin star was provider again when Joe Diver rattled the Queen's net again four minutes later.
