Tests on the sand they were buried in, using two different dating techniques (thermoluminescence and oxygen-isotope analysis), suggest they are between 70, 000 and 80, 000 years old.
Combined with finds of exotic objects in and around the circles, the evidence from isotopeanalysis of the bones of animals eaten at these sites points to the fact that people were travelling to get to them.
