The outcomes of awareness campaigns may in turn be shared with others through the International Information Literacy Resources Directory recently launched by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and UNESCO.

The announcement was made by UNESCO's Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, Abdul Waheed Khan, and IFLA's President Alex Byrne, last week in Seoul, on the occasion of the 72nd IFLA General Conference and Council.

Both the UNESCO and the IFLA representatives announced that their Organizations will very shortly establish a mid-term strategic plan of cooperation for covering areas such as libraries and community access, information literacy and the role of libraries to ensure cultural diversity.

For many years UNESCO and IFLA have cooperated closely in developing information capacities of UNESCO Member States, in particular in the field of libraries, including information services with a broad scope of projects ranging for example from "Guidelines for Digitization" to "Information Literacy", and from "Preserving the African Documentary Heritage" to "Public and School Libraries in the Caribbean".
