Apple hasn't been as direct about what's going on, but Wired believes there's been a 24-hour hold on phone-based Apple ID password resets while the company marshals its resources and decides how much extra strictness is required.
This development is made possible by a new wave of technology: radio-frequency ID chips the size of pepper grains, broadband wireless and Web-based "dashboards" enabling monitoring and management.
Upgrades to the SpareOnePlus include a location-based service which identifies the exact location of the cell ID, accessible through a free smartphone app, as well as audible numeric feedback which reads the number dialed and incoming calls aloud.
