The workshop was carried out in close cooperation with the Lebanese National Committee for the International Council of Museums (ICOM) .
More than 80 museum specialists from CIS countries and representatives of ICOM, UNESCO, Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and Defense ministry attended the seminar.
The Seminar was hold by ICOM Russia jointly with the Ministry of Culture, State Hermitage, State historical museum and State Central museum of musical culture named after M.
The courses and seminars were given by UNESCO officials with the participation of experts from UNIDROIT, INTERPOL, the World Customs Organization, ICOM as well as a specialist of inventories (Object-ID).
Examples of preventive conservation are: appropriate measures and actions for registration, storage, handling, packing and transportation, security, environmental management (light, humidity, pollution and pest control), emergency planning, education of staff, public awareness, legal compliance (source: ICOM-CC definition).
It is envisaged that the cycle of trainings will include 8 thematic trainings and 2 expert meetings carried out in partnership with the leading museums and in close cooperation with the Ministries of Culture and ICOM of CIS countries.
The event is organised in cooperation with the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, and with the support of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki, the ICOM Regional Alliance for South-East Europe, and the UNESCO Chair in intercultural policy (Thessaloniki).

Are also invited directors and high level experts from other European museums, professional institutions or international organizations to allow for an exchange of ideas and best practices (Peace Memorial in Caen, Museum of Europe in Brussels, German Historical Museum in Berlin, National Museum of the Risorgimento in Turin, Council of Europe, International Association of Museums of History, ICOM South-East European Regional Alliance).
