At some point, the news media and society in general are going to have to decide to begin holding these elements accountable to standards of behavior that are acceptable in a civilized society.
First, it represents a rare example of a court holding lawyers to the same high standards of professional behavior that lawyers impose, through litigation, on doctors, accountants, engineers and other professionals.
In my view, investor behavior over the past several years was dominated by short holding periods and trading actions triggered more by near-term concerns rather than long-term prospects.
