Tension was high during district elections in July - won by Mr Gbagbo's Ivorian Popular Front party - and the latest uprising is another indication that little has been done to heal the wounds inflicted on the country by years of regional and political conflict.
She remembers one patient who was constantly visited by family and seemed to thrive, and another who was terribly alone and never seemed to fully heal.
But whether any government or mainstream politician is really prepared to step back, and let the system "heal itself" - whatever the short-term consequences - is another matter.
