The Best Buy-owned CinemaNow is flashing a Disc to Digital beta page that offers downloads of a player for Windows or Mac PCs that not only allows access to one's UltraViolet library both online or offline, but also insert any DVD (no word on Blu-ray support yet) and convert it to an SD or HD UltraViolet copy.
It runs both Xbox's gaming interface and the Windows Media Centre Edition, and it can, connected to a TV in the lounge, or the bedroom, pull HD video, including live, streamed, pre-downloaded, copy-protected, digital rights managed video from your PC onto your TV.
While the overall Ultraviolet sign-up process and its multiple logins hasn't gotten any easier, once we created a ParamountMovies.com account we were able to stream a copy of Hugo unlocked by the Blu-ray 3D version in HD just by signing into the free app (XBL gold subscription required) on the Xbox 360 -- no antiquated discs necessary.

While the store is only built to work with Kaleidescape's high-end disc-playback systems -- these usually start in the thousands of dollars, and you'll need M-Class hardware for HD -- it currently offers movies from Warner Bros. with an Ultraviolet copy attached, so buyers can play them back on mobile devices through apps such as Flixster and Vudu.

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will both, at some level, take advantage of "Mandatory Managed Copy" technologies, which require that the new discs be capable of letting movie publishers decide whether consumers can share disc content in some way.
