The first room has Expressionist portraits he did of his friends in Berlin (the writers Raoul Hausmannand Rudolf Borchardt among others) that testify to his early rebelliousness.
Hausmann argues that diversification in the economic structure, and not necessarily specialization, may be a crucial factor for accelerating growth in India.
In work with Dani Rodrik of Harvard and Charles Sabel of Columbia University, Mr Hausmann argues that governments should emulate venture funds, backing new enterprises in the hope that one will make the leap into a more densely forested area.
