The Stop the Tour campaign wanted to mount similar demonstrations inside the Riverside ground, but were blocked by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after lengthy talks with the Durham club.
Michael Hills held Steenberg up as Etlaala and Beckermet set a furious pace considering the good to soft ground but as the leaders began to fade, Hills unleashed his mount with his run.
The event is called "Poetry Parnassus" -- named after Mount Parnassus, known in Greek mythology as the spiritual home of poetry, the stamping ground of the lyricist Orpheus and the hang-out for the Muses.
