Gedling Borough Council has already rejected an application from another firm for a crematorium in Lambley.
Environmentalists have said plans for a solar farm at the former Gedling Colliery site are "preposterous".
Alkane Energy, based in Edwinstowe, wants to extract gas at the old Gedling colliery using a borehole.
Site operator FCC Environment and representatives from Gedling Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council were present at the meeting.

Gedling Borough Council leader John Clarke said nothing had yet been decided.
Mark Glover, chair of the Gedling Conservation Trust, said building a solar farm in the middle of a country park would be "preposterous".
An application by Gedling Borough Council to turn part of the site into a country park has been approved by its planning committee.
Gedling Borough Council has earmarked farmland close to Linby to help it meet its target of accommodating more than 7, 000 new homes in the next 15 years.
The Gedling Colliery has been unused for more than 20 years and plans have now been submitted for a country park plus an area for 23, 000 solar panels.
Last year plans were submitted by solar farm developers, RE-Fin Solar and by Gedling Borough Council for a country park around the solar panels on the 14 hectare site.
Gedling Borough Council said that a consultation period on the planning application had ended and it was now looking at the responses to help inform the committee's decision on the application.
She said she arrived at the factory on Tuesday morning to find it 8in (20cm) deep in water and said Gedling Council and Severn Trent had been unable to help them.
Residents suggested the disused Gedling Colliery site would be a better choice for housing but Mr Clarke said this was not an option unless the county council built a new access road to service it.
