Gasoline (or petrol as it is called in India) is partially deregulated so the price is a function of international market rates whereas diesel is heavily subsidized in the country.
Hyundai had already suspended production of diesel engines at its Ulsan plant and warned earlier on Tuesday it could also have to stop production of petrol or gasoline engines.
The company, Air Fuel Syndication, then uses the carbon dioxide and hydrogen to produce methanol which in turn is passed through a gasoline fuel reactor, creating petrol.
