Co-executive producers Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon are writing partners whose formative work included episodes of "Spenser: For Hire" (1987), "Beauty and the Beast" ('87-'90), and "The X-Files" ('93-'97).
Gansa and Gordon didn't set out to recruit former "showrunners, " the TV equivalent of a movie director, who oversee everything from script writing to approval of locations, costumes and edits.
