But that strength is exerted unevenly: the pull in the direction of the galacticcentre (where there are a lot of stars) is greater than that in other directions.
The galacticcentre can only be observed at certain wavelengths - such as X-rays - because large amounts of dust lie in our line of sight, blocking out optical light.
