Energy resources that can be harvested in space for the benefit of Earth include helium-3 that occurs in abundance on both the Moon and asteroids and is ideal for new small fusionplants, as well as solar energy that can be collected and transmitted in concentrated form to Earth.
In addition to clearing our last remaining scientific hurdle, we need to advance a parallel engineering agenda into key reactor technologies that will enable commercial fusion power plants to reliably deliver electricity in a highly competitive market.
Climate change can be addressed without recourse to generating power from fusion since there are already many alternatives to fossil-fuel power plants.
