The European Parliament has suspended talks with the Council on five draft laws in protest at being excluded from decisions on the Schengen area of border-free travel, its president has said.
Most notably, France refuses to scrap checks on its northern border with Belgium and Luxembourg: it objects to soft drugs' free availability in the Netherlands.
He has added new tangles to the relatively minor problem of trucking across the international border which has led Mexico to slap on countervailing duties in defiance of the North American Free Trade Agreement in what they insist are U.S. violations.
