He added that the council planned to install a new sewer system in the waterfront area as part of its redevelopment and that would help resolve the flooding problems in Dock Street.
The work will involve the construction of a new structure outside the existing 150ft (46m) wide steel dock gate in order to safeguard the dock from flooding.
Even that would involve filling the hull up to the lower deck with electrolyte and, to balance the pressure, probably flooding the bottom part of the dry dock with Thames water.
