Because the advice in question was given to you in 1983, you would unfortunately not then be able to turn to the ombudsman or the FinancialServices Compensation Scheme - these bodies were set up as part of the investor protection framework that was set up five years later in 1988.
The other organisations are the UK Atomic Energy Constabulary, the Scottish Drugs Enforcement Agency, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, FinancialServices Authority, Office of the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland and the Radiocommunications Agency.
The FinancialServices Authority has extended the normal six-month deadline for people to go to the FinancialOmbudsman Service (FOS) if a firm turns down their original complaint.
