Impact craters surrounding the cap appear to be filledwith ice and dust that was either deposited by wind or condensation, or perhaps further remains from an earlier larger ice cap.
Later, after the buildings fell, a cameraman and I cut through the dust and walked toward ground zero, where the sky was filledwith fine pieces of glass and acrid smoke.
