In Britain, where better records have been kept, more than half the native bumblebee species either have become extinct or are facingextinction in the next few decades.
"We are facing an extinction crisis, " said Jane Smart, director of the biodiversity conservation group with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The species are listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List - a comprehensive source of information on the status of wild species facing a high risk of global extinction - as being 'vulnerable'.
