The neurophysiologist, who is based at Manchester Royal Infirmary, has developed an electrocardiogram system used in heart monitoring to spot early signs of the disease.
The resulting electrocardiogram data is sent wirelessly to a nearby mobile phone, which then transmits it to a monitoring centre, or directly to a doctor.
