Anita Bigsby, fringe festival organiser, said people wanted more events in the town itself, including comedy, an arts market, poetry readings, music from local bands and drama performances from schools.
The prestigious award of best schools' drama was presented to Scene: United, a hard-hitting drama looking at the effects of sectarian violence on young people in Northern Ireland.
Children's favourite Teletubbies won the best pre-school category and the best schools' factual award went to the drama documentary History File: Nazi Germany.
