On May 7th the first round of a three-part fight between Oracle and Google over patent and copyright claims relating to the Java programming language ended in a decision that denied outright victory to either firm.
The decision could help companies like Netflix and Apple in their negotiations to add more programming to their online services, by undermining the oligopoly of the cable-television and satellite TV networks.
"This is a disappointing decision and could create a digital television divide by slowing or eliminating access to high-quality digital programming for some consumers, " the MPAA said in a statement.
