North West crown court cases are facing disruption as barristers plan to miss hearings to attend a meeting in protest against proposed legal aid changes.
Magistrates are able to refer cases to crown courts which have tougher sentencing powers.
This autumn, the Magistrates Association is set to issue voluntary guidelines which consider a company's turnover when setting a penalty and may encourage them to refer more cases to crown court where judges can impose larger fines.
The Crown Office said the five cases were selected because in each there was an "identifiable" suspect.
