Gove's exams still place no value on creative subjects like art, music and drama, and no value on practical subjects like engineering, design and technology and construction.
The exam board says that creative writing will be added to an existing range of subjects where examiners have to assess the quality of creative work, such as art, music, drama and dance.
HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" was also shut out in the acting categories, although the drama series won seven Emmys last week at the creative services ceremony and a best directing Emmy for Martin Scorsese.
