Mr. Costolo has made several other key hires, including from Facebook and News Corp.
Much of the push to build out Twitter's business comes from 47-year-old Mr. Costolo.
Previously Costolo was a management consultant, and worked as an advertising product manager at Google.

Once a Google engineer after the search giant acquired his company FeedBurner, Costolo suggested that Google may have lost its moral compass.
Costolo says he assumes that kind of thing could already be happening.
