The company said that on Friday it had collected 6, 077 barrels of oil after placing a containment cap over the leaking, mile-deep well.
Despite delays on Tuesday and Wednesday, when it looked like there were too many cooks in the kitchen, today BP (and its government minders) fixed a leaky valve then moved on with their test of the containment cap.
This article over the weekend in the Christian Science Monitor details the plans to install flexible pipes that could withstand a hurricane and a larger containment cap that might create a better seal over the blowout preventer.

And we're looking to increase production, as I said, so we can slowly close those vents and see how the containment cap is working and whether or not any oil is forced down by the pressure through the rubber seals, as we've talked about before.
And what I mean by that is we believe that the cap will work just fine in the containment, that through a couple of different areas, that cap will take oil to the surface as well as to the choke and kill lines.
The containment capacity in the new structure, the sealing cap, will draw to two different boats and increase the containment capacity from roughly 15, 000 to between 20, 000 and 30, 000.
In terms of containment right now, the top cap is drawing oil and gas to the surface to -- from the LMR -- the lower marine riser cap to the Enterprise.

And because of the increased containment capacity out of the sealing cap, the choke line, which was feeding to the Q4000 at about 10, 000 barrels a day, will have its containment capability increased to 20, 000 to 25, 000 barrels a day.
As I understand it, the dome now sits several hundred yards away from the active well, as they seek solutions for dealing with the hydrates that have formed inside the containment dome that have made what they had hoped would be something that could cap and vacuum the oil, make it -- that that would be successful.
So the sealing cap -- and I should stress here that this is not related to the containment architecture.
