On 7 August, the Director-General opened the 10th Sub-Regional meeting of Secretaries-General of National Commissions for UNESCO in East Asia.

Highlighting that this remained just as relevant today, 65 years later, the Director-General thanked the National Commissions for their commitment to promoting UNESCO's ideals in Member States.

Nominations shall be submitted to the Director-General by the governments of Member States, in consultation with their National Commissions, and by non-governmental organisations maintaining official partnerships with UNESCO.

The Assistant Director-General also acknowledged the importance of the work done by the commissions and centers associated to IHP in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Director-General will open the consultation meeting with Member States and National Commissions of Latin America and the Caribbean region for the elaboration of the new Medium-Term strategy for UNESCO.
