One could make a case that the comment should never have been seen by the public at large anyway, as it is from an internal chat log from the Campfire collaboration tool used inside Gawker.
Pizzimenti, also a co-founder of chat client startup Olark, says he wrote the tool with his family members who were on Facebook in mind, after the recent bout of privacy changes made the settings more complicated.
