Google stated that it open to the handset manufacturers on what software they use, reminding us that Android is open source and they do not control OEM or carrier customisations.
Note: While Android is based on a Linux kernel, the goal behind Tizen seems to be an even more open-source, flexible OS designed to be user-friendly and carrier-friendly.
It signed a deal earlier this year to source phones from an undisclosed Asian contractor that will work with the carrier's chosen technology, code-division multiple access (CDMA).
