Somewhere along the way the writing and thinking folks (on both sides of the Atlantic) have ceded most of the public conversation about language to the carpers, whiners and peevers.
But the critics and carpers conveniently overlook the fact that taxpayers would have lost considerably more money if Ripplewood hadn't stepped in and saved what was left of the bank.
Even if the outcome is not the Lib Dem nirvana of a hung parliament, with its mythical potential for coalitions and pacts, the party may emerge stronger than the carpers predict.
