Can everybody please give Lisa a big round of applause for that great introduction? (Applause.) Not only does she deserve a great introduction -- or applause because of the introduction, but also having three kids and one more coming -- (laughter) -- that deserves some applause. (Applause.) To all the moms out there. (Applause.) That is some work.
And I chose Austin partly because I just love Austin -- (applause) -- but also because there are some terrific things going on in this area, in communities like Manor.

We are here today only because our parents and our grandparents, they broke their backs to support us. (Applause.) But they also understood that they would get a little bit of help from their country.

If you choose this path, we can cut our oil imports in half by 2020 and we could support more than 600, 000 jobs in natural gas alone. (Applause.) But you can also choose the alternative, which is to let the oil companies write our energy plans.

And, by the way, we want our sons in that, but we also want our daughters. (Applause.) I don't know if you were listening last night, but, see, we don't have to order up some binders -- (laughter) -- to find qualified, talented, driven young women to learn and teach and thrive and start businesses. (Applause.) And when these young women graduate, we should make a very simple concept the rule: Equal pay for equal work.

Not just oil and gas, but also wind and solar and biofuels. (Applause.) We've got to keep developing the technology that allows us to use less oil in our cars and trucks, less oil in our buildings and our factories.
And in the days after it did, this nation and all the world bore witness to the fact that the damage from Katrina was not caused just by a disaster of nature, but also by a breakdown of government -- (applause) -- the government wasn't adequately prepared and we didn't adequately respond.
And what that does, that creates a big market for American-made cars that are efficient. (Applause.) It puts people to work, but it also helps us free ourselves from dependence on foreign oil.

But keeping you strong also takes the civilian community beyond the gate. (Applause.) So we want to thank Mayor John Peyton and all your great neighbors, the people of Jacksonville, for their incredible support.

Because everyone here knows good and well that cutting Sesame Street is no way to balance our budget. (Applause.) Instead, we know that we need to cut wasteful spending, but we also have to make smart investments in things like education and infrastructure for an economy built to last.
That's what's critical, is making sure that we're always there to bequeath that gift to the next generation. (Applause.) And if you'll work with me, I promise I'll do everything I can -- (applause) -- I'll do everything I can to help protect our economy but also protect this amazing planet that we love and this great country that we've been blessed with.
