The Primrose Breast Care Centre at Derriford is one of the first in the country to install the 3D tomosynthesis upgrade to one of its mammomat X-ray machines.
The team of scientists in the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre at The Institute of Cancer Research have already shown this is possible in the lab.
Other services at the hospital will include a general outpatients, GP services, diagnostics - such as MRI, X-rays and ultrasound, a unit to support elderly people, day treatment unit, ante and post-natal services, children's centre and breast clinic.
