Senate leader Mitch McConnell and House leader John Boehner said they're working hard together.
"I don't know whether it's going to hurt the economy or not, " Boehner said.
"The discussion about revenue, in my view, is over, " Mr. Boehner said after the Friday meeting.

"It's hard to imagine that you could reconcile (the separate budgets) the House and Senate pass, " Boehner said.
Every House Republican leader voted for it enthusiastically, and Speaker Boehner said he was pretty pleased with the outcome.
"These are the votes that separate the men from the boys and the girls from the women, " Boehner said.
Boehner said today that he thinks that extending it would help the economy.
Boehner said Friday that if the Senate came up with a compromise, he would take a look at it.
Boehner said his chamber would move this week to pass a measure to keep government open through Sept. 30.
But just this morning John Boehner said everything is on the table except raising taxes on the American people.
Boehner said he has no plans to resurrect legislation passed by Republicans last year to block this year's sequester.
After the House failed to take action last week, Boehner said that it was all up to the Senate.

Boehner said he did not have the Republican votes to pass the measure.

Again, his proposal for revenue through tax reform is substantially lower than what Speaker Boehner said was possible just in December.
