Since Google ranks results based on the number of Web pages that link to them, cyber-criminals added thousands of links to their pages on forums and blog comment sections around the Web, pushing their pages to the top of the search engine's results.
As with many Internet memes, however, the concept quickly spread to the mainstream to the point where it's now fairly routine to run across references to "Rule 34" in blog posts and comment strings.

This is just a stab in the dark but I'm guessing quite a few of you who comment on this blog think so too.
What I would advise is having different passwords for sites you do financial transactions on (banking, Amazon, eBay, Paypal), have sensitive information on (Facebook), could be embarrassed by if compromised (LinkedIn, Twitter), and then a cycle of passwords you use for every other blog or news site you comment on.
Beyond its blog post, Google declined to comment further on the announcement.
