The National Weather Service issued a blizzardwarning through early Saturday afternoon and predicted up to 2 feet of snow and wind gusts of up to 60 mph.
Parts of the area could see up to 26 inches of snow from the storm, the station reported, and the weather service said Wichita would be under a blizzardwarning until 6 a.m.
He said the red snow warning remained in place with severe gale force winds and blizzard conditions expected to continue throughout the day and overnight, with only a slow improvement expected on Tuesday.
