The U.S. government's FIPS 140-2 certification of BlackBerry 10 and the selection of BlackBerry 10 by the German Procurement Office and Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) underline how our new platform continues to set the standard for government communications.
"Achieving FIPS 140-2 certification means that BlackBerry 10 is ready to meet the strict security requirements of government agencies and enterprises at launch, " said Michael K. Brown, Vice President, Security Product Management and Research at RIM.
In fact, the BlackBerry management ensured that BB10 passed the same certification Windows Phone is looking at ( FIPS 140-2) so the new handsets would be eligible for classified use.
The certification allows credentials issuers including banks, loyalty and reward programs to develop mobile payment solutions for Android and BlackBerry 10 devices that leverage the secure SIM card in an NFC-enabled device.
