The fuel will be processed on a floating rig some 80 km northwest of Palawan island in the west, and piped 504 km to Batangas province, south of Manila.
The deposit, discovered by Shell in 1992, is thought to contain between 2.6 trillion and 4.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, enough to supply the Batangas facilities for at least 20 years.
