Those pads will be assignable to a host of features (cues, loop, roll, sampler, and slicer) in the Serato DJ software (sadly not ready for a demo with the hardware at this time).

TiVo fans know that there are multiple assignable addresses for TiVos to prevent them from interfering with each other in the same room, the Series3 acts exactly the same, although there are some over at TiVoCommunity.com that are complaining about interference from Plasmas and other sources of IR interference.
