Cables wrapped in orange high-voltage warning sleeves are located under the hood of the Focus EV.
The technology also can sit in DC-to-DC devices, which are designed to adjust the voltage and minimize power losses.
FORBES: Google-backed Transphorm Raises $25M For Power Conversion Tech
Each glass sheet has rows of conducting wires running across it, and the two sets of wires are at right angles, so that a voltage can be applied across the liquid crystal at any chosen intersection.
To get enough voltage to turn the motors, hundreds of cells are stacked in order.
Now the first mains-voltage LEDs designed as direct replacements for incandescent bulbs are arriving on the market.
It's a less sophisticated auto-overclock, whereby three of the six cores are decelerated in order to give the other trio some extra voltage and speed for more serialized workloads.
ENGADGET: AMD's hexacore Phenom II X6 will offer Turbo Core automatic overclocking
Higher-voltage transmission lines that have become more common in recent years are intrinsically more susceptible to upset, and those lines are largely concentrated in the manufacturing centers of the Midwest.
FORBES: Intelligence Community Warns Solar Storms Could Collapse Electric Grid
Networks are riddled with circuit breakers that prevent electricity from flowing backward to the substation when voltage drops--the moment when utilities need solar cells and basement battery packs to support the grid.
Local controllers (X-NET) gather this information and deliver to a web-controller via GPRS. The overhead sensors are line powered, and the X-NET Controller can be powered by a low voltage supply or a solar panel.
Specs on this one are almost identical to the Samsung Q1, as the two devices share the same low voltage 900MHz Intel Celeron processor, 7-inch touchscreen, 512MB of RAM, and of course, Windows XP Tablet Edition operating system.
The best results of all are obtained when the response to one burst of stimuli is used to regulate the rate and voltage of the next.
