They sold Arcon, and in 1988, after reports of serious latex allergy reactions, they launched Rochester Medical to develop catheters made of other materials.
So in 1979 Jim and a younger brother, Philip, cofounded Arcon, conducting their experiments in Jim's kitchen, where they filled jars, glasses and pails with liquid latex, then cured the rubber in his oven.
