Labour MP Neil Gerrard has tabled an amendment to the bill that would make it possible for people to applyforapassport without having to submit their details for the ID cards database.
For those born elsewhere, they will need only eight years' residence to be able to applyfora German passport, and dual citizenship will be tolerated, though not encouraged.
His bail conditions included not leaving or attempting to leave the UK at any time and not to applyfor any travel documents for any reason, but McErlean applied fora new passport which was issued days later.
