And Apple was fined a million and a bit for having urged the purchase of that AppleCare warranty without having explained that most to all of it was already covered under the legally required two year one.
Apple has been accused of not so informing people and further, found guilty of that as well as then going on to sell them an AppleCare package which provides the same deal as that legally necessary free warranty: but at a fee.
Apple offered a one-year warranty, with an option to extend that cover under an AppleCare Protection Plan, but Italian law says that all goods have to come with a two-year warranty, and (critically) it is up to the retailer to inform customers of that fact.
