Mr. Schuman lives in Manhattan, where he often gives private lessons at his home in the Ansonia, an Upper West Side apartment building favored by generations of classical musicians and singers.
Bands from New Jersey, Massachusetts and elsewhere came to Warsaw Park in the 1960s and into the 1980s, says Helen Ptak of Ansonia, who ran the dances at the park's pavilion.
