The most recent incident, an overheated battery prompting an All Nippon Airways (ANL) airliner to make an emergency landing, has resulted in an order by the Federal Aviation Administration to temporarily ground all domestic 787s.
The January 16th malfunction that finally triggered the grounding order involved an ANL flight that was diverted to the Takamatsu airport in western Japan when pilots detected a burning smell and a cockpit message indicated a battery problem.
