The inclusion of the two sports was welcomed by British Olympic chief AndyHunt, who added that both would provide medal opportunities for Great Britain in Rio de Janeiro.
The only previous winner in the shortlist is Newcastle captain Alan Shearer, with Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia and Manchester United striker Andy Cole also in the hunt.
Following the decision in February Andy Slaughter, Labour MP for Hammersmith, said he had requested Jeremy Hunt to refer the decision to an independent panel and was told one of the affected councils needed to vote for that to happen.
