Comrade Artemio, the last remaining leader of the group which terrorised Peruvians in the 1980s and '90s, said he was prepared to call a truce with the government of Peru in return for a political settlement and a general amnesty.
Mr Zardari's party fears that if former Supreme Court judges, including ex-chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, are reinstated, they could overturn a controversial amnesty that Mr Musharraf granted Mr Zardari and Ms Bhutto last year that paved the way for them to return to the country.
