Some studies have found that people with internet addiction have fewer dopamine receptors in certain areas of the brain, and others have suggested additional ways in which dopamine function might be impaired.
Timothy Fong, the co-director of the UCLA Gambling Studies Program, which conducts research and treatment into gambling addiction, said some people can become addicted to lottery games.
He presents data from pharmacological or epidemiological studies on what exactly those are, bolstering his argument with discussions on the nature of addiction and changing attitudes to psychoactive substances throughout history.
