"Going forward, we expect headline CPI to ease further, providing ample room for Beijing to take more policy easing steps to support growth, " HSBC economists led by Qu Hongbin wrote in a report.
"New export orders contracted after a temporary rebound in March, suggesting external demand for China's exporters remains weak, " said Qu Hongbin, China chief economist at HSBC in a statement.
