鼎（拼音：dǐng）是汉语常用字，始见于商代甲骨文。鼎本意是古代的一种煮食物的器具。在古代，鼎不仅仅是用来烹煮食物，也是放在宗庙里祭祀用的一种礼器。鼎很大、很重，所以“鼎”又表示很盛大，如：鼎鼎大名、鼎盛。由于“鼎”的重要，又常用于比喻王位和帝业，如：定鼎、问鼎。鼎也是国家政权的象征。鼎是煮食物的大容器，水在鼎里翻滚称为“鼎沸”，比喻喧闹、混乱。鼎又有更新的意思，如：鼎革、鼎故革新。

鼎，是古代我国一些地方古人用以烹煮肉和盛贮肉类的器具，是古代最重要青铜器物种之一。“鼎”（炊器）被后世认为是所有青铜器中最能代表至高无上权力的器物。
三代及秦汉延续两千多年，“鼎”一直是最常见和最神秘的器具。鼎有三足的圆鼎和四足的方鼎两类，又可分有盖的和无盖的两种。

鼎是一部古代的文学典籍，记载于《天工开物》1967年版，主要讲述古代关于鼎的文化。

鼎，是《周易》六十四卦中第五十卦。鼎为饮食器具。全卦的内容同饮食以及与饮食有关的事相关。
